Letter -- Scrap tuition fees

Dear Editor,

Following on from the article on tuition fees in your previous edition. As a long-standing activist for free education, I was horrified to hear that the leader of the Liberal Democrats now considers the abolition of tuition fees to be unaffordable. Whatever our other differences, we had always thought that the Green Party and Liberal Democrats agreed on the absolute importance of breaking down barriers to education, and of providing education regardless of a student's background or ability to pay. Apparently, we were wrong.

Regardless of how the Liberal Democrats change their policy on tuition fees, students can be assured that the Green Party will be fighting for the principles of a fair society. They are not negotiable.

Yours sincerely,
