Greens welcome new car club
Following on from the closure of the CityCarClub car sharing scheme in Reading a new scheme called Commonwheels has recently launched with the first car being sited at the Wycliffe Church at Cemetery unction.
In the past the Green Party helped promote CityCarClub and since closing they have helped promote the meetings to set up the new car club.
Green Party campaigner for Park Ward - where the first car will be based - Rob White said:
"It‘s great to see the new car club finally coming to Reading. We‘ll be supporting them in any way we can."
"With the high density of housing in Newtown parking problems are particularly bad. So the car club which has a guaranteed parking space is going to be appealing to people. Car clubs have also been shown to reduce car ownership in areas where they operate which over time will ease parking pressures in Newtown. People that don‘t use a car very often can even save you money through the car club by a reduction in the overheads of running a car year round, while still having access to one when they need it. So I would urge people in Newtown and across Reading to look into Commonwheels and see if it is right for them."
