Greens call for council to protect Kennet Mouth

For some reason failed Labour politician John Howarth has decided that the Green Party is against prosperity. He doesn't seem to have based this on any facts so here are a few for him.
Before it became fashionable we've been working to defend local businesses – from the likes of Tesco megastores – because we recognise the value they bring to the area through job creation, keeping money in the local economy and being part of the glue that holds the local community together. We are currently backing the Federation of Small Businesses 'Keep Trade Local' campaign.

Letter - Bath Road Reservoir
Submitted by Adrian Windisch on 28 October 2008 - 11:06pmIt is interesting to see both Tory and Labour people joining the protest at the proposed developments at the Bath Road Reservoir. The reservoir site is special because it has become a habitat to so much wildlife; it is home to diverse species, many rare or protected. This is one of the few green spaces near the centre of the town; there is nowhere else for them to go. The Reading Biodiversity Action Plan states that Reading aims to 'protect, conserve and enhance Reading's diversity of wildlife', not destroy every last site.

Greens call for action on dangerous crossing

These bins stop children seeing into the road and stop car drivers from seeing the children. The Greens want to see them moved.

Greens battle junk mail

On average, each UK household receives 18 items of junk mail every week.
21 billion junk mail items are distributed to UK households on average every year.
The annual total of unsolicited mail and hand-delivered flyers in the UK weighs about 550,000 tonnes. The vast majority of this is unsolicited unaddressed junk mail.
Green MEP Caroline Lucas to vote against biofuel targets

Green Party politician, Caroline Lucas who represents the area in the European Parliament has supported their call to scrap targets to increase biofuels. Biofuels come from growing crops and have been hailed as a green solution to emissions from cars. But Friends of the Earth has found that the drive to increase the use of biofuels is causing many problems.

Gurkhas' right to settle backed by Green conference

Greens say "no to Kennet Valley Park"

Tesco agree to end Newtown trolley blight
Submitted by Rob White on 29 August 2008 - 5:21pmFollowing on from a campaign by Reading Green Party, Tesco on Napier Road has agreed to collect its trolleys left around the Newtown area by inconsiderate shoppers.
The trolleys are a nuisance blocing roads and pavements on land and disrupting boaters, fishermen and wildlife when in the river as well as worsening flooding.
